Frothy Monkey to open its sixth location
in the Lockeland Springs Neighborhood of East Nashville

Open date TBD

November 7, 2019The Post East will be closing its doors at 1701 Fatherland St in East Nashville at the end of this month, and the plan is for Frothy Monkey to open a full Frothy location (breakfast through dinner with coffee, beer, wine, and spirits) in the space after a brief closure. We have been patiently waiting for the right East Nashville opportunity to open a Frothy Monkey since we outgrew our BAKERY on Fatherland Street in 2018,” said Frothy Monkey co-owner Ryan Pruitt. “We are excited to be a part of the East Nashville neighborhood again.”

Husband and wife team, Tonya Lewis and Chris Cowley opened The Post East in 2014 as a place that fit the feel and culture of the neighborhood. “The spirit of community that The Post brings to Lockeland Springs is what Frothy brings to all the neighborhoods where they are located,” said The Post East proprietor Tonya Lewis. “There is a personal touch and quality in service that local businesses provide that major chains can’t replicate.”

More details will be released as they become available.

White Campfire Mug Recall

Posted by on August 7, 2019

Hey Friends,

We were recently made aware that the white Frothy Monkey Campfire Mugs currently being sold in stores and online were printed with an ink that may wash off in the dishwasher – specifically when using Cascade pods. The product was not labeled with instructions to hand wash only and the thought of faulty printing being a disappointment to all the people who bought these mugs to mark a memory makes us feel the saddest! If you purchased a white campfire mug since March of this year and have had any issues with the imprint coming off, we would love to replace that mug for you, or issue a full refund. Please fill out the form below and we will replace your mug free of charge!

And if you have one of these mugs sitting on your shelf with the logo intact, be advised that these are hand wash only so please protect that monkey and keep it out of the dishwasher!

If you have any further questions feel free to contact shop@frothymonkey.com

LIMITED EDITION: CHACON COSTA RICA NATURAL

Posted by on August 7, 2019

We taste sugarcane juice and candy, with an abundance of blackberry jam flavors, followed by a blood orange acidity and deep red plum notes.

This coffee is a Perla Negra Natural, meaning the coffee seeds dried in the fruit, skin intact, for 10 days under constant rotation before being transferred to bags for 2-3 days and finishing on raised beds. Thanks to this method, it boasts a big flavor, intense fruitiness, and rich sweetness., and it makes for a big, rich, exotic cup.

Our newest revelation takes us to some of the leading innovators of Costa Rica, Oscar and Francisca Chacon. In 2008, when an earthquake cut off water access for their Las Lajas micromill, the Chacons improvised. Knowing that other countries like Brazil and Ethiopia had success with natural or pulped-natural methods that required less water, the Chacons decided to try it with that year’s harvest. The results were surprising — when tasted alongside their traditional washed offerings, the naturally processed coffees stood out for their fruity, exotic cup character.

The Chacons have since led the way in Costa Rica’s micromill revolution. Experimenting with a wide range of drying times and methods has given these coffees their names (like “red honey” or “Alma Negra Natural”). Producers like the Chacons exemplify the forward-thinking creativity that makes coffee and ever-intriguing beverage. Even more so, they represent hope for coffee producers everywhere who face increasing challenges in the decades ahead. Rather than fold in the face of adversity, the Chacons reinvented their 180-year-old farm, preserved its legacy, and brought new and exquisite coffees into the world.

Chacon Costa Rica Natural will be available for a limited time at all Frothy Monkey locations and from our online store!

2018 Festivus Blend

Posted by on November 23, 2018

A blend of coffees from Sumatra + Ethiopia feat. notes of dried fruits, vanilla + baking spices

For the holidays we combine two very different and complex coffees from Sumatra and Ethiopia. For the 2018 Festivus Blend, we have once again selected two of the finest coffees Sumatra and Ethiopia have to offer.

We commissioned local artist, Neal Russler to hand letter the Festivus art and the packaging was screen printed in Nashville, TN by Grand Palace.

This year’s Ethiopian component is a naturally processed coffee from the Konga cooperative, grown in the world famous Yirgacheffe region. This complex coffee adds plenty of dark fruit notes to the blend, such as cherry and blueberry.

The Sumatran component comes from the famed Aceh region in northern Sumatra.  Here the coffees are picked at peak ripeness and then processed in the “wet hull” method that has made Sumatra famous for their flavor profile. Our 2018 Festivus Blend adds plenty of depth with notes of vanilla, oak, and baking spices.

Together, these coffees create our version of one of the world’s original coffee blends, Mocha Java.

Festivus Blend will be available at all Frothy Monkey locations and from our online store throughout the holiday season!

Golden Monkey + the benefits of turmeric

Posted by on November 1, 2016

We recently released our new menus for Fall/Winter, so chances are you’ve already tried the “Golden Monkey”. If that’s the case, we won’t need to tell you how delicious it is, but we do want to tell you what people are saying about the health benefits this drink has for your body!

As you know, turmeric is one of the main ingredients in this recipe, and many people have found that this herb has notable impact on all kinds of things from arthritis to gastrointestinal problems to allergies! We asked our friend and herbalist Leah Larabell from High Garden Tea to give us some insight into this herb’s credibility as a healthy addition to our diet and here are some of the things she said:

  • • Powerful anti-inflammatory components safely reduce the pain and swelling of arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis and tendonitis.
  • • Anti-inflammatory benefits also extend to gastrointestinal (GI) problems, such as gastric ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome and ulcerative colitis.
  • • Potent antioxidants help stop unstable oxygen molecules that can otherwise run crazy in our bodies, damaging cells and opening the door to dangerous diseases, such as cancer. This is also beneficial after illness when the body actually produces these free radicals to fight the foreign bacteria but sometimes makes too much and we need help cleaning them up.
  • • Turmeric helps curb excessive immune responses that characterize conditions such as allergies, asthma and possibly even multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease, where (in animal studies) curcumin appears to inhibit development of amyloid plaques.
  • • Studies suggest a still wider range of healing benefits, such as lowering cholesterol, preventing atherosclerosis and protecting the liver against chemicals and viral damage.

Turmeric often gets confused or replaced with its most well-known “active” compound, curcumin. Turmeric contains a variety of inflammation-fighting compounds known as curcuminoids — the most widely known and extensively studied of which is curcumin. Importantly, large doses of curcumin can cause gastric upset, while the herb turmeric contains a number of active ingredients that combine to have a gastro-protective effect. Curcumin, isolated, also is very poorly absorbed by the body while being within turmeric as a whole plant is well absorbed.

So not only is our Golden Monkey one of several tasty new seasonal drinks on our menu, but it’s one of many examples you’ll find in our menu where intentionality and the desire to present the best ingredients influences our creations! Plus, Leah also let us know that Turmeric is absorbed even better when it’s paired with pepper and a fat such as milk; good news for us latte lovers!
To find out more about Turmeric, other herbs, or any of the tasty High Garden teas you can get at your neighborhood Frothy, email Leah at highgardentea@gmail.com or visit them at their location on Woodland Ave in East Nashville!
