Burundi Ikawa Nziza Lot 1

From $22.00

Our newest single origin offering comes from the Central African nation of Burundi. The climate and soil of this region are particularly suited for producing high-quality coffee. These farmers work with Cafex, a project launched by a Belgian-Burundian couple whose mission is to combine the coffee production of their ancestral lands with sustainable development and a desire to improve the lives of the local population.

This microlot was milled at Ikawa Nziza, which began in 2013 as a partnership between the owners of Cafex Mill and Schluter Importers (now Covoya Europe), specifically aimed at building and promoting specialty coffee production in Burundi. Ikawa Nziza’s mill is the first purpose-built specialty dry mill in Burundi, situated at an altitude of 1650-2000 meters and designed to cater for high-quality microlot coffees.

Like its neighbors Rwanda and Congo, Burundi is a sought-after origin, known for its unique flavor qualities. We loved this microlot for its complexity and sweetness. The quality of production and processing at the farm level is evident on the first sip. Our team tastes notes of key lime, honey, rooibos, and prune.
