// 06.01 Our Reopening Plan + Safety Protocols //

You WOW us every day with your support, and we are grateful. Now that more folks are starting to enter back into public it was clear to us that in order to best serve you, we needed to put more systems and controls in place. Our plan is to slowly open our buildings, so we can roll out changes effectively to provide the safest experience possible. On June 2nd, we’ll start by opening our Chattanooga location, which is already set up to be conducive to distanced flow and seating. We will add our Downtown Nashville location next for dine-in service on Thursday, June 4th, followed by Franklin on Tuesday, June 9th. Once we determine dine-in dates for the remaining locations we will announce them.

We love to be a part of your daily routines. Please bear with us because there are a few changes we have made that may seem unexpected.

After nearly 16 years of counter service, you will now check-in with a friendly masked and sanitized host. They will seat you, and then a server will take your order at your table. This will allow us to limit the number of people in our spaces, the number of guests at each table (no more than 6), and ensure that your table is sanitized and socially distanced before you sit.

Staff is required to be symptom-free before reporting to a shift. We are utilizing CDC guidelines promoting handwashing, facemasks, social distancing, sanitizing, and training staff on health measures. We will be maintaining our already high standards of cleanliness while adding more frequent cleaning practices.

We have made changes in order to manage lines, eliminate paper menus (although they will be available if needed), and cut down on other high touchpoints such as condiment bars. We have also installed contactless payment options (yay Apple Pay!).

Due to the unique features and layout of each location, the flow may vary. But, the general policies, safety changes, and high levels of service will be the same. We will also be keeping some of the products and amenities we have added in the past few months including groceries and prepared foods, as well as online ordering for curbside pickup.

Hours will continue to be 7 am – 8 pm at all locations until further notice. We are looking forward to seeing you soon! As always, please email us at frothycares@frothymonkey.com if you have any questions.

// 05.25 Updates for Nashville, Franklin, Chattanooga //

Without the unending support of our communities, these last 2+ (very challenging) months may have broken us. Thanks to you all, and one kickass team working around the clock, we are somehow still here. There are no adequate words to express our gratitude, but we want you to know that we will continue to be here for you, as you all have for us.

Our dining areas will remain closed at this time, but we are still open for take out and delivery. Our goal is for each guest who enjoys Frothy to feel comfortable and confident in their experience.

As a small business, a family, and members of our community, we want to be part of the solution and do our part to provide and sustain jobs during this pandemic. Like you, we want Frothy to survive and thrive, and we want to serve you in the safest way possible.

We are creating our own timeline for opening our dining areas based on the responsibility to provide for the unique needs of our staff, guests and neighborhoods.

We are working diligently to make thoughtful changes to our operations and service in order to begin opening our dining areas in some capacity, but we are just not ready yet. As you can imagine, there are so many adjustments to be made, so please stay tuned for updates.

Thank you for your continued support, your patience, and your kindness to us and to each other.

Let us know if you have any questions by emailing frothycares@frothymonkey.com.

// 05.08 Updates for Nashville, Franklin, Chattanooga //

Due to the sudden announcement from Nashville’s Mayor about entering phase one of the plan to reopen the city, we wanted to reaffirm our decision to keep dining areas at all locations closed until we feel it is safe for staff and guests to gather in them. We will remain OPEN for curbside pickup and delivery.

In addition to that, we have several exciting things to announce!

• Beginning Friday 05.08 we will be expanding our hours at all open locations (12South, Nations, East, Franklin, and Chattanooga) to 7am – 8pm seven days a week.
• East Nashville now has a full line of beer, wine, and cocktails!
• We are launching our spring / summer menu including seasonal drinks
• We will be re-opening our Downtown Nashville location very soon (more on that later)

We will continue to innovate to stay relevant in an effort to employ more staff, and continue to offer the best quality experience possible. As we closely monitor the situation we will be carefully considering factors including the unique needs of our staff, our guests, our operations, and the recommendations of health organizations. Our goal is to invest our resources in sustainable practices as we add staff and begin the process of reopening fully and there is not an exact timeline.

Thank you for your support. We will continue to take every precaution to provide the safest possible service for our guests and work environment for our staff. We hope that you continue to enjoy Frothy Monkey with confidence. Let us know if you have any questions by emailing frothycares@frothymonkey.com.

// UPDATE Sunday 4.26.20 //

As you know, we are in a time with many unknowns and challenges which are changing day to day. In light of the communication from government officials in the past few days about plans for reopening our cities, we wanted to give you an update on what our plans are for Frothy Monkey.

We will be carefully considering factors including the unique needs of our staff, our guests, and our operations, while using recommendations from health organizations, as well as the phased plan presented by Nashville’s Mayor, as guidance for our decisions company wide. Our decisions will be data driven, not date driven, which means we do not have an exact timeline for reopening fully.

Our dining areas at all locations will remain closed until further notice until we feel it is safe for staff and guests to gather in them. We will remain open for curbside pickup and delivery, and over the next few weeks begin to expand our hours of operation as well as our menu. We will continue to innovate to stay relevant in an effort to employ more staff, and continue to offer the best quality experience possible. 2020 Festivus Blend

Posted by on November 18, 2020

A blend of coffees from Sumatra & Ethiopia, with tasting notes of dried fruits, vanilla, and baking spices

It’s that wonderful time of year again! Festivus! For our 2020 Festivus Blend, we have once again selected two of the finest coffees Sumatra and Ethiopia have to offer. Wildly different and distinct, yet harmonious when combined, this coffee is our take on a traditional Mocha Java blend.

We commissioned the incredible local artist Jessie Pickren of Hew & Co to illustrate the Festivus packaging, while screen printing for these limited bags was done in Nashville, TN by the always-amazing Grand Palace.

This year’s Ethiopian component is a naturally processed coffee from the Konga cooperative, grown in the world-famous Yirgacheffe region. This complex coffee adds plenty of dark fruit attributes to the blend, like delicious cherry and blueberry notes

The Sumatran component comes from the famed Aceh region in northern Sumatra.  Here the coffees are picked at peak ripeness and then processed in the “wet hull” method that has made Sumatra famous for their unique flavor profile. This adds deep, warming notes of vanilla, oak, and baking spices to our Festivus Blend.

More on Mocha Java

Together, these coffees create our version of one of the world’s original coffee blends, Mocha Java. This style of coffee blend dates all the way back to when traders were sailing from Europe to Indonesia. Ships would stop in the port of Java and pick up the typically bold and earthy coffees that Indonesia had to offer. Then, on their way back, they would stop in the busy port of Mocha in Yemen, picking up more coffee. Like the nearby coffees from Ethiopia, coffees from Mocha were lighter, fruitier, and brighter than their Java counterparts.

Coming back to Europe, coffees from these two parts of the world were mixed together resulting in one of the first known coffee blends. The bright, fruity notes of the African coffee paired beautifully with the deep, rich undertones of the Indonesian Java coffee and became known as the Mocha Java Blend

Today, you rarely find Mocha Java coffees that are blended with exactly these two components. Typically, roasters like us will get a similar mix by using coffees from Sumatra, and bright coffees from Ethiopia to make their Mocha Java blend. That’s what we’ve done with Festivus Blend. It’s a fantastic mix of bright, fruity Ethiopian coffees and deep, rich, full bodied Sumatra. And, if you’re like most people and hear “Mocha Java” and think “chocolate”, about the only thing a Mocha Java blend has to do with chocolate is some of the rich, chocolate flavors you get in the cup from our Sumatra Aceh coffee.

Festivus Blend will be available at all Frothy Monkey locations and from our online store starting on Black Friday and throughout the holiday season!

Gratitude Blend Coffee

Posted by on November 16, 2020

We’ve got quite a lot to be grateful for this year, and we couldn’t be more excited to let everyone know just how much we cherish and appreciate our staff, customers, and all coffee lovers across the globe. In this season of humble reflection and indulgent delectables, we’ve developed a limited edition coffee blend to help celebrate those people we’re thankful for, to share with them a delicious holiday treat.

Gratitude Blend was designed using two sweet and satisfying coffee varietals from El Salvador and Guatemala, resulting in the perfect pairing for Thanksgiving. A luscious, confectionary-like cup, tasting of pecan and nutmeg, with subtle fruit notes and a smooth cocoa sweetness, all resulting in a wonderfully cozy experience you’ll want to share with the people who matter most in your world.

The bags themselves are designed with giving in mind: we’ll happily hand-write your recipient’s name on their bag of coffee before we ship it out, just to let them know how much they mean to you. We really just want to say a heartfelt “thank you” to all of you, and we want to help you to pass that same sentiment along to your nearest & dearest.

Purchase a bag for your own holiday celebration or for someone you are grateful for. Bags of whole bean coffee are available in-store and online for $15. If you purchase online, drop us a note and we’ll handwrite what you are grateful for on the package before shipping! Thanks, everyone! Cheers!

Flat rate, free ship, and express shipping options are available.

Limited Edition Coffee: Los Bellotos Bernardina

Posted by on November 6, 2020

Coffee is a drink of discovery, and any specialty coffee lover can likely recall more than one moment of revelation in their coffee-drinking journeys, something that sparked a desire to discover more. With Frothy Monkey’s newest limited release, we’re extending you a special invitation to join in the continuing discovery with us!

Los Bellotos Bernardina, the most unique and exciting coffee we’ve ever had the privilege to roast, comes from the famed Pacas family of El Salvador. They have a knack for discovering new varieties of coffee: Maria Paca’s great grandfather, Fernando Alberto Pacas Figueroa, discovered the renowned Pacas coffee variety on Finca San Rafael in 1945. The Pacas family has continued this tradition of specialty coffee breakthroughs by dedicating a portion of their farm to varieties not typically found in El Salvador.

Bernardina, this newly discovered coffee species, was first identified in 2008, when Los Bellotos farm manager Ruperto Bernardino Merche noticed some curious coffee cherries on their farm. Somehow, five unidentified coffee trees made it from Agaro, Ethiopia to El Salvador in the 1930’s, and they survived undiscovered until Ruperto realized that these fruits were exquisitely fragrant and sweet. Maria and Café Pacas named the new varietal “Bernardina”, after the man who had been saying for so long that these five trees were special. Since then, they’ve propagated more of these one-of-a-kind plants so that we can provide the Nashville coffee community and the rest of the world with this exceptional coffee experience.

After genetic analysis, it was discovered that Bernardina is related to both Geisha and Ethiopian Agaro, and has proven itself a hardy variety with some promising resistance to coffee leaf rust, which devastated El Salvador’s crops in 2013. This new variety is still being explored more fully, with trees being planted in a variety of microclimates and varying elevation bands, to better understand its potential. That same potential is already being realized, however, as this coffee placed third in the 2019 El Salvador Cup of Excellence competition.

We were lucky enough to first taste the Bernardina variety in early 2020, and we knew immediately that we had to have it, and committed to taking 1 bag from Café Pacas. Bernardina is a stunningly delicious, very limited new offering from Frothy Monkey Roasting Company, with flavor notes of orange blossom, amaretto, and ginger snaps. You’ll notice intense florals and fruitiness in the cup, and you’ll probably find this is one of the most delicate, soothing coffee experiences you’ve ever had. We are absolutely thrilled to finally share this uniquely delicious coffee with you; this is the culmination of our years of coffee roaster expertise, our honored partnerships abroad, and our passion for sourcing and roasting beautiful coffees for our customers.

Available online only for a very limited time, El Salvador Los Bellotos available now.

Frothy Monkey Coffee Roaster, Daniel Lopez, talks about how special this coffee is.

Introducing Limited Edition: Dia De Los Muertos Coffee

Posted by on October 14, 2020

Special packaging designed by Neal Russler (instagram.com/nealrussler)

It’s our favorite time of year, and we’re proud to offer a delicious coffee that honors a tradition that’s very dear to our hearts. Day of the Dead is one of the most important annual celebrations in Mexico and Latin America, and we cherish the opportunity to help preserve and communicate the cultural heritage of Dia de los Muertos and its importance in our communities. We’re pleased to bring you an exceptional coffee from the Heart of Sierra Sur in Oaxaca, Mexico, by our longstanding partners in the Sicobi group. Beautifully balanced with notes of clementine, caramel, and graham cracker, our Mexico Sicobi is one of our most anticipated coffees of the year, and we’re delighted to share it with you. Salud!

Available in-stores and online now!

We’ve been developing a relationship with the Sicobi group for five years now, and continue to be impressed with the consistent quality of the coffee they’re exporting. Founded nine years ago by the non-governmental organization GAIA, as part of its efforts to support and encourage biodiversity, Sicobi now manages 1,500 hectares of coffee plantations that belong to 500 growers in their region of Oaxaca. They select only a small percentage of the available coffee, in order to focus their efforts on developing quality and differentiating markets.

The coffees processed through Sicobi don’t fit the standard Mexican cup profile you may be familiar with. Some of them almost have the fruity character of a natural, despite being fully washed; that happens because of the natural conditions of the region, particularly the very dry landscape that creates a unique micro-climate. This year’s lot is another strong one, boasting a pleasant citrus acidity and a malty, sweet character.
