Posted by on February 28, 2017

At Frothy Monkey we take coffee seriously, but we also take wine seriously.  This is initially a surprise to those who aren’t familiar with the forward thinking breakfast through dinner coffeehouse concept, but in the summer of 2015 Frothy gained national recognition by Food & Wine Magazine as one of ‘8 Phenomenal Coffee Shops Where You Can Get Your Wine Fix’. This will be the fourth year of wine focused programming for our evening customers, and it includes a weekly Wine Down Wednesday, Wine Love dinners, and Happy Hour.

“We want our wine offerings to be approachable, yet educational,” says Brittney Harrison, Frothy’s wine and hospitality guru. “My favorite thing about wine is that it allows you to branch out and try new things, and that is what we have in mind when we are tasting and choosing wines.”

A new year of wine at Frothy Monkey begins on Wednesday, March 22nd with the popular Wine Down Wednesday. The Downtown Franklin, 12South, Downtown Nashville, and Southside Chattanooga locations are hosting this weekly event. We will have 3 pours of wine and snacks for $15 every Wednesday 5-7pm.  Beer flights are also available for those who would rather sip a brew. $15 for 6 beer tasters and snacks. frothymonkey.com/wdw

Wine Love Dinners are scheduled for April 6, 7, 22; June 15, 16, 17; September 7, 8, 9; and November 16, 17, 18. The five-course dinners typically take place 6pm – 9pm on Thursday nights at our Franklin location, Friday nights at our DWTN Nashville / Avenue of the Arts location, and new this year Saturday nights at our Southside Chattanooga location. They are a collaboration between Chef Chase Ingalls, Head Baker Jen Mello, and our wine partners. Tickets are $60++ and will be made available at frothymonkey.com/winebeerlove

Try Happy Hour at our Downtown Nashville location. Select beers and wine are 2 for 1, Monday through Friday 4pm – 6pm. frothymonkey.com/happyhour

Frothy Monkey Inks Lease for Nations location

adding breakfast through dinner dining to the neighborhood

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) April 1, 2017— Frothy Monkey has signed a lease on a space at 5016 Centennial Blvd, at the end of 51st Ave on the west side of Nashville in The Nations Neighborhood. This will be the brand’s fifth breakfast through dinner location in Tennessee, and  it will service The Nations, West Nashville, Sylvan Park and the surrounding area.

“I’ve lost track of the times that friends, and strangers for that matter, have reached out and asked if we could open a Frothy on this side of town,” said Jennifer Sheets, Frothy Monkey Partner and Creative Director. “It has been difficult to keep the news to ourselves, but we wanted to wait to share with everyone until after our Southside Chattanooga location was up and running.” The Southside Chattanooga location opened on March 6th.

Frothy Monkey will be building out the space in the Stocking 51 building next to what has become Nicky’s Coal Fired– a location that was chosen in late 2016 and made official on February 1st. Construction is set to begin in the next 30-60 days. Just over 3500 sq ft. of the building will be renovated to hold roughly 124 seats- a mix of bar seating, booths, 4 tops, 2 tops, and community tables.

Their vision of the future of the American Coffeehouse is this- come to Frothy Monkey expecting great coffee, and discover that you can enjoy breakfast through dinner, a glass of wine or a pint in a creative and approachable atmosphere. Though the customer demographic varies in each neighborhood they inhabit, there is a common thread of quality, local/regional food and beverage relationships, accessibility to customers, and the comfort of a traditional coffeehouse with an expanded menu of offerings from morning through the day and into the evening. As Frothy Monkey continues to grow, the intent is to invest in areas where they can be a contributing neighbor.

Frothy Monkey Believes in Nashville

Posted by on March 31, 2017

If you’ve been in Nashville long or visited us at our 12 South location, chances are you’ve taken a picture with, or at least driven by, the “I Believe in Nashville” mural in our neighborhood. If you’ve not been in Nashville long or visited our 12 South neighborhood what you may not be aware of is that recently the beloved mural was vandalized.

In a statement released shortly after, creator of the mural, Adrien of DCXV Industries said this:

“The mural will be repainted, and I hope it can continue to serve as a symbol for unity, positivity, and peace for anyone who loves this city. As appreciated as the support is I would like to take this moment to remind people to think about the intent behind the piece, and to practice those things today and going forward: unity, positivity, and peace. In fact, as grateful as I am for people supporting me and DCXV, instead of visiting our shop, if you want to show your support for I BELIEVE IN NASHVILLE, go do some good today. Go volunteer, offer to help someone, or just call up a friend you haven’t talked to in awhile.

In the grand scheme of things, it’s art. It can and will be fixed. If any good can come from this, let’s choose to do so.”

We’re proud to call Adrien friend, and we’re excited to be partnering with him to celebrate the mural’s 5th Anniversary! In honor of the unity and positivity it represents,  Adrien is teaming up with local businesses in Nashville to create some limited edition “I Believe in Nashville” goods where proceeds from the sales go straight to local non-profits!

For the month of April you can get a special edition “I Believe in Nashville” bag of coffee from our Downtown Nashville or 12 South locations (while supplies last). Bags are $17.99 each, and proceeds will be going to the Nashville Rescue Mission, our Roasting Company neighbors, who are doing great things in Music City day in and day out. We believe in great coffee, we believe in Nashville, and we believe in the power of unity and positivity in our community!

Frothy Monkey Syrups

Posted by on March 16, 2017

Our baristas, bartenders, and bakers have collaborated to develop a collection of syrups, and not only have we sourced quality ingredients, and produced + packaged locally, but we want you to be able to use them at home too! You can add them to coffee or hot chocolate, mix into cocktails, or drizzle over desserts, then sit back and enjoy a better syrup with the perfect flavor and sweetness. Intrigued, but unsure where to start? Check out these recipes below, using our current flavors: banana, hazelnut, vanilla, and pecan, then head over to our web store and get your syrups today!

Brown Sugar Pecan Pound Cake | Jen Mello, head baker, BAKERY by Frothy Monkey

16 tablespoons (1 cup) butter, at cool room temperature
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose Flour
1 cup sour cream
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
½ cup of Pecan Syrup

For Glaze:
1 ¼ C Confectioner’s Sugar
2 tablespoons Pecan Syrup
1-2 teaspooons Milk
2 T Pecans, toasted and chopped.

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9- or 10-cup Bundt pan.
  • In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating for a minute or two between additions. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl, and beat briefly to recombine any residue.
  • Add the baking powder, salt, and baking soda, then gently beat in half the flour.
  • Gently mix in the sour cream and vanilla, then add the remaining flour, mixing just until blended.
  • Scoop the batter into the prepared pan, and bake for 55 to 60 minutes, until a cake tester or toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven. Cool it in the pan for 15 minutes before turning it out of the pan onto a rack to finish cooling.
  • Before the cake cools completely, poke holes approximately 1” apart all through the cake, and pour the ½ cup of Pecan syrup over the surface and allow the cake to absorb the syrup.
  • While the cake cools, stir together the confectioner’s sugar, Pecan Syrup and enough milk to make a pourable glaze.
  • Toast Pecans (350°F  for 5 min), and chop when cool.
  • Once the cake is cool, pour glaze over the top allowing it to drip down the sides. Sprinkle with the chopped Pecans.
