Brazil João Hamilton

From $22.00

Brazil is the number one coffee grower in the world. It’s an origin country historically known more for value and quantity than quality. However, FAF Coffees, a coffee producing group in the state of São Paulo, and producer João Hamilton have been working for decades to challenge this reputation.

This microlot, featuring a variety native to Sumatra, was grown on João’s farm, Sítio Canaã. The farm was acquired in 1979, a time when coffee production focused solely on commodity and quantity. At this point, agro-toxic chemicals were commonly used to ensure production success, a practice that did not consider nature or future generations.

In 2004, João met Marcos and Felipe Croce of FAF Coffees, who proposed a new model of agriculture based fundamentally on sustainability. With the help of FAF Coffees, this new approach was adopted by João and his neighbors, transforming their community and propelling them forward into the future.

João’s Sumatra variety microlot presented our team with the coating sweetness of malted chocolate, the delicate acidity of cherry, along with a nutty finish of almond. It’s a perfect snapshot of both Brazil’s progress and future in specialty coffee, one we hope you will remember for a long time.
