Introducing our latest single-origin coffee, sourced from smallholder producers on Shikankoni Hill in the Kayanza province, Burundi. This washed lot boasts a balanced body and crisp, juicy acidity, thanks to the favorable climate and soil conditions found on the Congo-Nile crest. The farmers, working in collaboration with Cafex, a project launched by a Belgian-Burundian couple, are dedicated to sustainable development and improving the lives of the local population.

Milling and exporting of this exceptional coffee were entrusted to Ikawa Nziza. Established as a partnership between Cafex Mill and Schluter Importers (now Covoya Europe), Ikawa Nziza focuses on building and promoting specialty coffee production in Burundi. Situated at altitude, their purpose-built dry mill caters specifically to high-quality micro-lot coffees.

Burundi, like its Central African neighbors Rwanda and Congo, is a highly sought-after origin. Our micro-lot offering provides an opportunity to experience the complexity and inherent sweetness that defines coffee from this region. With tasting notes of dried fig, malted chocolate, and candied almond, this captivating coffee is equally appealing to both newcomers and seasoned adventurers in the world of Central African coffee.

What is Single Origin Coffee? Unlike coffee blends, Single Origin Coffee has a single geographic origin. This could be a single farm or a single country. For the majority of these coffees, we will have a direct relationship with the farmer who grows them. Because coffee is a crop, harvesting is seasonal and the timing is specific to each region, our selection of single-origin coffees will vary throughout the year.

To make it extra special, we commissioned local artist, Alicia Binkley of Monkey Ink Design to illustrate our Single Origin labels. Enjoy!

This coffee is sold as Whole Bean to provide you with the freshest product. Please let us know in your order notes if you want your coffee ground.
