Costa Rica Ricardo Calderon

Our second Costa Rica release of the year comes from our purchasing partners at Exclusive Coffees and producer Ricardo Calderon. Ricardo, a second-generation coffee farmer, has been cultivating coffee since 1975. Coffee growing is a family business for the Calderons, with his sons, Maikol and Diego, actively involved in daily operations.

The family farm and processing mill are located in the highly regarded Tarrazú region in central Costa Rica. The high-altitude climate and readily available freshwater create ideal growing conditions for smallholder producers in the region. Thanks to these factors, Ricardo can experiment with different processes and varieties. This microlot features the SL-28 variety, native to Kenya.

Ricardo’s SL-28 coffee beautifully honors the innate qualities of its Kenyan origin while incorporating the Costa Rican terroir. It is delectably sweet and smooth, presenting notes of Nutella, cola, and candied orange peel. The white honey processing gives it a sweet and creamy mouthfeel with a crisp, citric fruitiness. Calderon’s commitment to experimentation and improvement is evident, and we’re thrilled to share this special treat with you.
