Our new single-origin offering, Ethiopia Duromina Lot 4, comes to us from the Agaro region of Western Ethiopia. Duromina is the name of the cooperative that operates under the leadership of the Kata Muduga Cooperative Union, whose continued investment in the coops it leads makes possible some of the most delicious and coveted coffees in the world.
Duromina’s processing is immaculate, leading to an incredible showcase of the coffee’s natural potential year after year even for a ridiculously long time off harvest. The secret? After processing equipment mechanically removes most of the fruit and mucilage from the seeds, they soak overnight in fiberglass tanks, allowing any remaining sugars to be fully removed from their surface so that the coffees are perfectly clean by the time they hit the drying beds for the eight-plus days they’ll need to dry.
We sourced this coffee with the help of our friends at Red Fox Coffee Merchants, who consistently import some of the finest Ethiopian coffees in the world. Duromina Lot 4 is the first Ethiopian lot from Red Fox we’ll feature this summer. Our quality team was struck by its intense fresh apricot acidity, juicy melon sweetness and chamomile tea finish and body. Duromina Lot 4 showcases the exceptional quality Ethiopian coffees possess and we’re delighted to share this wonderful experience with you.
What is Single Origin Coffee? Unlike coffee blends, Single Origin Coffee has a single geographic origin. This could be a single farm or a single country. For the majority of these coffees, we will have a direct relationship with the farmer who grows them. Because coffee is a crop, harvesting is seasonal and the timing is specific to each region, our selection of single-origin coffees will vary throughout the year.
